AIDS MINISTRY - UKUKHUTHAZA

An active group of people comprising members of St John's, other nearby Anglican parishes and community health workers, work in Pinetown and surrounding areas and have a common concern for people infected and affected with HIV and AIDS.  The group engages in various projects that are mostly long-term.  Underlying all the projects is the fact that because HIV and AIDS will be around for a long time to come, and we have not yet reached the peak of the epidemic, we need to empower people so that they can take control of their own lives and maintain their independence.

Because of the scale of the epidemic and the fact that our current projects only just scratch the surface, an NGO has been registered, called Ukukhuthaza.  The idea is that with formal registration we will be more easily able to access donor funding.  Ukukhuthaza remains a project of St Johns with representation from other churches and other interest groups.

The work done in the various communities could not be done without all the very special people involved.  Our committee members are all dedicated people, many of whom work under very stressful conditions.
