YOUTH

YOUTH @ S.J.B aim to be committed to Jesus, experiencing and ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit as well as living by faith.

Our Youth Group is made up predominantly of young people in grades 8-12 who attend various schools in the Highway area including Westville Boys High and Westville girls High, Pinetown Boys High and Pinetown Girls High, Mariannhill Secondary, Reservoir Hills Secondary, St Benedicts, Kloof High, Thomas More College and Hillcrest High.  We consist of a rich mix of young women and men of different ages, races, cultures, languages.

Youth on Fridays

We meet in the Small Hall from 18h30 to 20h30 on Fridays during the school term.

Our focus is on developing our relationships with one another as we relate our faith to our lives as young people living in South Africa today.

Our activities include playing getting-to-know-you, non-competitive games; spending some time catching up (sharing our news) with each other; playing team games; watching movies and then discussing how they apply to us as Christian young people; having guest speakers; preparing for involvement in Sunday church services and discussing topics of concern or interest to us.  We evaluate each term’s activities and then plan for the following term together.

We have a planning and coordinating group made up of some members who attend Youth on Fridays. Their leadership skills are in the process of being developed.  They help facilitate the Friday evening sessions.

Alison Warmback is the Youth on Fridays Coordinator.

If you are in grades 8-12 and would like to join us, come along on a Friday evening during the school term and we will welcome you!

Our Confirmands, 2008

On occasion, our young people take an active part in the service, to the enjoyment of all!

Teen Church/ Youth on Sundays

Youth on Sundays takes places during the 9h00 service on a Sunday morning.  We are initially in church for the beginning of the service and go out for our teaching session after the Collect/before the readings and return at the Peace for The Communion.  We participate in Sunday services on a regular basis by being readers, leading the prayers, play acting, playing the guitar and as altar servers.

During the Youth on Sundays sessions we are using the South African National Sunday Schools Association iVangeli Curriculum - bible readings and interesting topics that we discuss in an interactive and participatory way.
